Sciatica - Back, Leg & Calf Pain

If you feel pain in his back, legs and calves, the chances are you are suffering with sciatica. Before I go further, however, it is important that I emphasize that sciatica is a descriptive term and not a diagnostic one is. If you pain anywhere from there back through her buttocks and down the back of her leg might say, is suffering from the feeling with sciatica.

However, the most important thing is not an indication that you are suffering with sciatica, but rather what the causeYour sciatica! Two or three different people were presented with the same signs and symptoms, but each of their causes may be different.

The sciatic nerve is the nerve roots formed L4 - S3 which leave the lower part of the back. Subsequently, the buttocks, down the back of the legs and then passes through its regional offices, to the tips of the toes.

If this nerve is aggravated by either originate in the lower back or on the backthe leg, she has the potential to cause pain () as well as other signs and symptoms such as pins and needles, numbness and weakness.

The causes of sciatica can be numerous, as I mentioned above. However, the main culprits tend to be:

1) A herniated disk

A herniated disc is more on the nerve roots that form the sciatic nerve pinch, as they leave the spine itself. If there is a herniated disc in the present, the goal is to reduceBulge with special exercises, such as lying on his stomach, and possibly ahead.

2) facet joint irritation

Because the nerve roots exit the spinal column, they can be trapped by the facet joints of the lower back. If a facet joints in the lower back of the nerve roots of the sciatic nerve is annoying, would be the target so that the joints moving, so that the nerve roots to move more "space". This can begently hugged his knees to his chest.

3) Muscle imbalance

Here, tight & / or weak muscles can be too much stress to be placed on the sciatic nerve. A specific stretching and strengthening exercise program should be prescribed for this problem. If your pain starts in the buttock region, there is a fair chance of muscle imbalance is the main cause. A tight piriformis is a very common cause of sciatica, which begins in theGluteal region.

Note: Please note you need to know what exercises are appropriate for your specific problem. In relation to the exercise of two examples that I can given above, if you were to exercise the wrong one, so at the end instead of aggravating your pain relief it. No Exercises should aggravate your pain, if it is to do it, it's important to stop them.

The good news is that sciatica is almost always treated conservatively with a reasonableCounseling and exercise program, depending on which of the above 3rd May your pain be caused.

It is is important to remember that almost all cases of sciatica can be treated and solved 100% without surgical intervention is necessary. It's just knowing what to do and when to do it, which is the deciding factor.
